The Rangers have dodged one bullet so far in the offseason, but still another left to go with pitching coach Mike Maddux. Maddux has removed himself from consideration to be manager of the Boston Red Sox, according to T.R. Sullivan.
↵Boston is in need of a manager after parting ways with Terry Francona, who led the team to two World Series titles in his time with the Red Sox. Perhaps Maddux simply didn't want to go to Boston, or maybe he just didn't consider it the right fit. Either way, he won't be the next manager of the Red Sox, which can be a relief for Rangers fan.
↵Sullivan does add, though, that Maddux is going to further consider pursuing the manager's position in Chicago with the Cubs.
↵If Maddux does bolt to Chicago, who he is still scheduled to interview with, it'll be easier for Rangers fans to root him on, given he'll be in the National League... and, at the least, not managing the Red Sox.
