Let's try this again: The Texas Rangers will try and brave the cold, wet weather of St. Louis and take home the franchise's first world championship in tonight's day-late sixth game of the World Series. While fans, bloggers and various pundits could argue either way as to who gets the advantage with an extra 24 hour delay, The Ft. Worth Star Telegram's Gil Lebreton slyly trolls Cardinals fans hoping to ignore manager Tony La Russa's phone gaffes with a little wet weather:
La Russa, 67, had a Woody Hayes moment -- a moment where we gasped at his sudden fallibility.
And now his Cardinals constituency is begging for rain. How unbecoming.
If a seventh game is needed, Carpenter would be pitching with only three days of rest. The only other time in his career that the 26-year-old right-hander has pitched with three days' rest came in this season's NLDS. Carpenter lasted only three innings in that game and allowed eight of the 16 batters he faced to reach base.
He has denied it during the World Series, but Carpenter supposedly has been experiencing elbow problems. Between some innings Monday in Arlington, Carpenter eschewed taking his warmup pitches.
Not sure how a rain dance is supposed to help that.
First Pitch: 7:05pm CT
Starting Pitchers: Colby Lewis vs. Jaime Garcia
TV: FOX
Radio: ESPN Radio 103.3FM
