Sure, the Rangers missed out on re-signing Cliff Lee - but they made up for it by picking up Brian Barden, re-signing Endy Chavez and inviting them both to Spring Training, right? Seth McClung was also invited to Surprise along with Barden and Chavez.↵
Chavez, assuming his knees are healthy, is a good enough defender that he warrants a roster spot. Barden hasn't done much in the majors. He was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals from '07-'09 as a bench player, bouncing between St. Louis and AAA Memphis. He did the same thing last year - just with the Marlins while hitting .179 in the majors. He's unlikely to crack the Rangers active roster when the team breaks camp.
The Rangers are also waiting on Brandon Webb to make his decision - something that should come in the next few days. The Rangers have shown interest in the injured sinkerballer, and he cold prove to be a worthwhile pick up if he can be somewhat healthy. The Cubs and Nationals are also reportedly in the mix for Webb's services.↵
