The TCU Horned Frogs moved up two spots in the latest USA Today Coaches' Poll, going from No. 16 last week to No. 14. TCU improved to 3-0 Saturday with a win against Virginia. The Longhorns didn't move in the poll, but notice a 3-0 Baylor Bears team at No. 24 this week, their first appearance the poll this season.
Both the Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs have gotten off to strong starts to the 2012 season, although not against the most difficult of competition.
Both teams will have their chances to move up the rankings, but they'll need to wait until conference play, when they have games against No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 7 West Virginia and No. 14 Kansas State.
The Big 12 is second only to the SEC with the number of teams in the top 25, but the SEC has three in the top 5 (Alabama, LSU and Georgia).
The Longhorns dominated Ole Miss, 66-31, and were rewarded for their efforts by jumping two spots to No. 10 in the coaches' poll. The Longhorns were ranked No. 12 in this week's AP Top 25. TCU, meanwhile, fell one spot to No. 16 in the coaches' poll after their problematic 20-6 win over the Kansas Jayhawks. The Horned Frogs also fell in the AP Top 25, to No. 17.
Alabama maintains its No. 1 ranking, with LSU holding on to No. 2 and leading to more speculation about another two-game playoff between the two teams. The big loser was USC, who fell from No. 3 all the way to No. 12 after their surprising loss to Stanford. Oregon slides up to that No. 3 spot, with Florida State (No. 4) and Oklahoma (No. 5) filling out the top five in the rankings.
The Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs both won on Saturday, and both find themselves ranked in the teens in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
