Per Mandel, presidents will have the opportunity to discuss alternative options still, which include a plus-one system.
Specifics are unknown still, but it's a major step forward for college football. It is also unknown how it will work in conjunction with the current BCS system and bowl games.
Mike Silve, who was hoping to reach a consensus on Thursday, is "delighted" that a consensus has been reached.
Stay tuned for further details regarding the playoff system, as more news is sure to come in the coming days.
