Big 12 Expansion: Miami Is Not Interested In Moving To The Big 12

Add the Miami Hurricanes to the list of teams that have been linked to joining the Big 12. The Hurricanes are linked to the Big 12 due to the Florida St. Seminoles possibly being a candidate, and adding two Florida schools would make sense so that they could be travel partners.

However, Miami's athletic director Shawn Eichorst released a statement saying they are happy in the ACC:

"Since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2004, the University of Miami has worked hard to measure up to the high academic and athletic standards set by our peers and we could not be more proud than to call the ACC our home."

"We are confident in our progress and in our accomplishments, yet there is still much work to be done. We are committed to the ACC and to doing our part to continue the tradition of excellence across the board. In that regard, we have not engaged in any formal or informal discussions with any other conferences."

So, there is a slight jab at the academics of the Big 12, but the actual reason that Miami saying they have no interest in the Big 12 comes down to money. It could cost Miami more than $15 million in exit fees if they are to leave the ACC and move to a new league.
