The Texas Longhorns host new Big 12 foe West Virginia and Heisman frontrunner Geno Smith
The Texas Longhorns find themselves inching ever closer back to national prominence, as they're No. 11 after a 4-0 start in 2012. They'll get a real test to show if they belong on Saturday when they host No. 8 West Virginia for the first time as Big 12 rivals.
The Longhorns will have to tangle with West Virginia's Heisman frontrunner, quarterback Geno Smith, who is coming off an eight-touchdown, 70-63 win over Baylor. On the season, Smith has 1,728 yards, 20 TDs and no interceptions. Texas quarterback David Ash is no slouch himself, coming off a 304-yard performance in the Longhorns' win over Oklahoma State. Ash is second behind Smith in quarterback rating at 180.4.
Both teams come into the matchup 4-0, 1-0 in Big 12 play.
No. 15 TCU hosts Iowa State for its first ever Big 12 home game on Saturday. The Cyclones (3-1, 0-1) will try to knock TCU (4-0, 1-0) from the ranks of the unbeaten, and TCU is looking to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 13.
Here's a rundown for this weekend's games:
Iowa State at No. 15 TCU, Saturday, 2:30 p.m.
No. 8 West Virginia at No. 11 Texas, 7 p.m., FOX
SMU at UTEP, Saturday, 7 p.m.
