Chip Brown: Mack Brown Won't Be Forced Out At Texas

Chip Brown has put down a report that claimed that Mack Brown would be forced out as coach of the Texas Longhorns.

Chip Brown has responded to a SportsByBrooks tweet that quotes "multiple" sources as saying that Mack Brown will be forced out as head coach of the Texas Longhorns.

@ChipBrownOB
Two UT sources close to the situation say there's no truth to reports that Mack Brown is about to retire or be forced out.

A tweet out of Kansas spurred speculation during the week that Brown could be retiring, but Brown put that to bed himself

Brown's Longhorns struggled through a second consecutive losing season in conference for the first time since the 1930's and finished their regular season on a downer note, falling to a stellar Robert Griffin and his Baylor Bears. The last time Texas struggled through a rough patch like this, John Mackovic was fired and Brown was brought in.

Assuming that he does stay on the job, Brown has a lot of young talent in place. He has a big issue at QB to settle, however. Neither sophomore Case McCoy nor freshman David Ash managed to convince that he was the man to lead the team back to top ten territory. Brown has a commitment from Connor Brewer, rated by Rivals.com as the 175th best player in the country and the eighth best pro-style QB. The QB issues seem to be at the center of the speculation over Brown's future, as discussed Friday on Burnt Orange Nation.

Brown faced turmoil after the 2010 season, the program's first losing season since 1997. In response, he brought in two new coordinators and several new position coaches. The result was a more competitive team, but a struggling offense thanks to the young QBs.
