The Texas Longhorns face off against the California Golden Bears in the 2011 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl.
The Texas Langhorns will face off against the California Golden Bears in what some believe could be Mac Brown's last game as the Texas head coach on Wednesday night in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl. After another mediocre season, the Longhorns enter the bowl season with a 7-5 record as the sixth-place team in the Big 12. Cal also comes into the Holiday Bowl with a 7-5 record and finished the season in fourth place in the Pac 12-North.
The Longhorns quarterbacks, Case McCoy and David Ash, have combined for more interceptions than touchdown passes this season, but their defense and their running game has kept them competitive this season. True freshman running back Malcolm Brown leads the Longhorns in rushing (707 yards and five touchdowns).
The Golden Bears are led by running back Isi Sofele (1,270 yards and nine touchdowns), but Cal may need to find another way to move the ball as Texas has the NCAA's 11th-ranked run defense, allowing only 103 rushing yards per game. This game has all the makings of a close, defensive battle that goes down to the wire.
Game Time/Date: Wednesday, December 28; 8 p.m. ET
Location: Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California
TV Schedule:
National: ESPN
