Grambling State Vs. TCU 2012: Final Score And Game Recap

The No. 20 TCU Horned Frogs were as close to perfect as is possible on Saturday night, dominating Grambling State 56-0 while committing barely any mistakes all game long.

Quarterbacks Casey Pachall and Trevonne Boykin combined to go 17-of-17 for 274 yards and four touchdowns, with Pachall going a Superman-like 9-for-9 for 201 yards and three touchdowns alone.

The Frogs would take a 42-0 lead into the half and lead 56-0 after three quarters before pulling most starters and playing mostly reserves and third string players. TCU would lead 28-0 after the first quarter alone, thanks to a punt return for a touchdown by Deante Gray as well as a 28-yard interception return by Elisha Olabode.

TCU would outgain Grambling State 527-76 for the game, with the Tigers managing just five first downs in the game while committing 11 penalties and punting 11 times.

The Frogs, on top of the domination through the air, would add 253 yards rushing with six different players carrying the ball.

TCU Vs. Grambling State Halftime Score: Horned Frogs Leading 42-0

The TCU Horned Frogs had to wait a week to get their 2012 season underway, and they are making up for loss time as they have scored 42 points over Grambling State in just one half of play. Two of the six touchdowns were not on offense, as Fabian Carter scored the first touchdown on a 70-yard punt return and another was an interception by D.J. Williams, who returned it 28 yards for the score.

Quarterback Casey Pachell is perfect so far by completing 9-of-9 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Josh Boyce has caught four passes for 102 yards, and a pair of touchdowns.

Look for TCU to unload the bench in the second half to avoid starters getting injured, and to provide some valuable early season playing time for the backups.

TCU Vs. Grambling: Keys To The Game

TCU will kick off its 2012 season on Saturday when Grambling State comes to town, and the Horned Frogs are heavily favored, as one might expect.

According to TCU blog Frogs O' War, some of the biggest keys to the game for the Frogs against the Tigers will involve the running game, especially keeping theirs strong while stifling a Tigers run offense that went wild against Alcorn State in their 22-21 loss last week:

Establish the run: TCU has one of the best backfields in all of college football, there is no reason not to pound the rock. Especially against a team who gave up 224 yards on the ground last weekend.

Stop the run: Grambling only had 66 yards passing in week one against Alcorn State, BUT the Tigers did rush for 356 yards, with two different players going for over 100 yards. TCU cannot allow GSU to establish its run game.

It should be a fairly easy ask for the Horned Frogs to outrun Grambling State both offensively and defensively. TCU's running back selection is great and the team should have no problem keeping the Tigers off of the board, if not only because their defense is far better than anything Alcorn could have thrown out there.

Gary Patterson Nears TCU Career Wins Record

Texas Christian head coach Gary Patterson enters Saturday's matchup against the visiting Grambling State Tigers one victory away from being the most successful head coach in Horned Frogs' history.

Patterson, who is currently tied atop the university's all-time win list with Dutch Meyer at 109, is only one of eight current coaches with at least 100 wins at their school, according to an interesting read from Fox Sports' Anthony Andro.

And as big as that accomplishment will be, at this point, Patterson is just focusing on not getting caught up in what is expected to be a hugely monumental game on multiple levels:

"You don't want to downplay it at all but as well all know, we have a lot of work to do ahead of us," Patterson said. "It's really kind of ironic it. You have a chance to break the record plus you're also christening a new stadium, going into a new conference. There are so many new things that are going to happen this week. You've just got to keep your head down."

But even though Patterson may be trying to keep his "head down" throughout the contest, odds are that he'll be on top when it comes to the program's history after the clock hits zero.

The Horned Frogs will kick off their season at 6:00 p.m. CT against the Tigers at the recently renovated Amon G. Carter Stadium.
