Oklahoma vs. TCU 2012: Fans frustrated by suspect playcalling

Suspect playcalling and costly mistakes for TCU led to a disappointing 24-17 home loss to No. 11 Oklahoma on Saturday at Amon Carter Stadium.

The Horned Frogs trailed 21-7 in the third quarter before the offense finally came alive, pulling to within 24-17 midway through the fourth. When Oklahoma's Mike Hunnicut missed a 42-yard field goal, TCU drove the length of the field with just under three minutes remaining in the game. Quarterback Trevone Boykin appeared to tie the game on a keeper on third-and-10, but the play was called back due to obvious holding.

TCU failed on fourth down from the 15, ending the game and securing a big win for Oklahoma. The close defeat was no consolation for TCU fans, however, as HawkeyedFrog of Frogs Of War expressed his feelings about the playcalling on offense:

Frustrating, frustrating game. The playcalling was poor once more, and the personnel decisions were frankly baffling. We ran the zone read one time in the first half, gained eight yards and I didn't see us run it again. On senior day, Matthew Tucker gets five carries? Dean gets nine yards on a carry to the outside, gets one on a play where he was hit in the backfield and gets no more carries the rest of the game? Even if we do #FreeCaseyP next year without a bit more creativity and thought in the playcalls the TCU offense may struggle next year, and with the talent that we have on offense that's a damn pity. Why in games that we have Waymon James do we run Tucker 15 times and games where we don't we run him five times? What a waste.

TCU managed just eleven first downs in the game on 350 total yards. Boykin managed just 231 yards passing, a good chunk of which came on an 80-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Carter. TCU averaged 3.8 yards per run on 31 rushing attempts in the game.
