The Texas Tech defense had their best showing of the season in their 49-14 upset of West Virginia last week, but they may be even better going forward.

They're returning junior LB Daniel Cobb back to the fold after the Lubbock DA dropped the felony burglary charges that had forced him to miss the first part of the season.

In a press conference with reporters this week, Red Raiders coach Tommy Tuberville strongly stood by his player (courtesy of the Dallas Morning News):

"He's been cleared by the district attorney. No wrongdoing whatsoever. He's had to clear his name," Tuberville said. "The kid's going to graduate in two months (after) three and a half years in business. Never gave us one bit of problem. But it cost him two and a half months of playing college football and six games."

Cobb, a 6'0 220 LB, started for Texas Tech as a sophomore, racking up 70 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, in 12 games.

Under Tuberville, a defensive-minded coach, the Red Raiders have been slowly changing the offense-first mindset emphasized by Mike Leach. In 2012, they've given up only 17.3 points a game, the 17th best mark in the country.
