The TCU Horned Frogs had an infortunate start to the second half when the Boise St. Broncos scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery, but since that score Boise State has outscored TCU 14-8 and 21-8 overall in the second half. Boise State has slowed down the TCU offense in the second half and scored their second touchdown on a long drive that lasted 10 plays for 67 yards with D.J. Harper scoring his second touchdown of the day on a 3-yard run to extend Boise State's lead 28-20.
The TCU offense responded on the following possession and quarterback Casey Pachall nearly had his fourth long distance touchdown pass. Running back Waymon James caught a 35 yard pass but tripped and fell, had James not tripped he had plenty of open space and could have scored a 67-yard touchdown pass. TCU still drove down the field and scored on a 2-yard pass to Josh Boyce. With TCU down 28-26 they decided to go for two and they converted after Pachall scrambled and then dove and just barely crossed the goal line to tie the game at 28 apiece.
Boise State took no time in going back on top as they needed only one play to go back up top 35-28 as Kellen Moore completed a 54-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Burroughs to put Boise State back on top.
