SMU has their first commitment for the 2013 season, offensive lineman Freddie Johnson, to lead the Mustangs youngest class into their first season in the Big East.
According to FOX Sports' SMU beat writer, Laken Litman, the Southern Methodist University Mustangs have their first commitment for the 2013 season, offensive lineman Freddie Johnson.
#SMU has received its first commitment of the 2013 class in Temple (Texas) OL Freddie Johnson.
Johnson chose SMU over Eastern Illinois, and had interest from Baylor, Texas Tech and Texas Tech. His high school coach, Mike Spraldin, said that Johnson committed right before spring break and that he is tremendously athletic.
"He officially committed right before spring break," said first-year Temple coach Mike Spradlin, who was an offensive line coach under Art Briles at the University of Houston from 2003-06. "I'm an old O-line coach, and I can say that Freddie's a tremendously athletic kid. [SMU] offered him, and it took him all of about five seconds to get back to them. SMU was where he wanted to go."
SMU will be joining the Big East in the 2013 season so Johnson will be the first of a new class of Mustangs to enjoy the chase of a BCS bid.
