Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

The SMU Mustangs host one of the country's most woeful teams on Saturday.

The SMU Mustangs aim for a .500 record on Saturday as they host the Memphis Tigers in a Conference USA matchup.

SMU is coming off a 72-42 win over the Houston Cougars. The Mustangs forced Houston into nine turnovers, including three straight that SMU returned for touchdowns. After struggling for most of the season, SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert was 23-28 for 265 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Overall, the Mustangs' offense ranks 88th nationally in total yards.

Memphis arrives in Dallas as one of the most downtrodden teams in college football, posting a 4-27 record dating to the start of the 2010 season. At 1-6 this year, the Tigers have mustered just 299 yards of offense per game. Quarterback Jacob Karam has completed 62% of his passes and thrown just two interceptions on the year, but only averages 152 yards per game.
