East Carolina and Tulsa sit atop the Conference USA standings through the first five weeks of the season, while the SMU Mustangs still haven't opened up conference play.

After the first five weeks of the NCAA season, the East Carolina Pirates and Tulsa Golden Hurricanes sit atop the East and West divisions in the Conference USA.

Both East Carolina and Tulsa are 2-0 in conference play. Tulsa improved to 2-0 on Saturday, winning a wild shootout, 49-42, over UAB. The win also improved Tulsa's overall record to 4-1 on the season.

East Carolina also won on Saturday, besting UTEP, 28-18, improving to 2-0 in Conference USA play as well.

The SMU Mustangs lost on Saturday -- but it wasn't a conference game, at least. SMU fell to TCU, 24-16, and dropped to 1-3 on the season. All is not lost for SMU, though, as the team has yet to play a conference game this season.

The Mustangs will open CUSA play on Saturday when they head to UTEP to take on the Miners.
