After shoring up their unit over the past two seasons, Dallas could add further depth with the strong safety out of Texas.

After missing the playoffs for the third straight season in 2012, the Dallas Cowboys will once again tool up and try to regain their crown as America's Team. A big factor in the playoff drought has been poor secondary play, and Dallas has looked to free agency and the draft to fix the issue. Their first pick last year was former LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, who looked the part of an NFL starter in 2012. With the 18th pick in this year's draft, the Cowboys could further shore up that unit.

According to three of CBS Sports' four NFL writers, the Cowboys will do just that with former Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro. The Texas native appeared in 51 games for the Longhorns across four seasons, starting 32 of them at safety. He made the All-Big 12 Team twice, being named to the first team in his junior season and second team as a senior.

But SB Nation's mock draft — done by the immortal Matthew Fairburn — has Vaccaro off the board early, at pick No. 8. With the elite safety gone, Matthew has the Cowboys drafting right tackle D.J. Fluker. A member of the massive Alabama line that steamrolled Notre Dame in the BCS Championship Game, Fluker could be a long-term replacement of the ever-mediocre Doug Free.

If Vaccaro slips to No. 18, almost all the experts agree that the Cowboys will gobble him up. But if the draft doesn't shake that way, look for Dallas to address their issues on the offensive line or at defensive tackle.

Dallas has needed offensive line help forever and can address it with the addition of Fluker.

In SB Nation's latest NFL mock draft, expert Matthew Fairburn has the Dallas Cowboys selecting Alabama Crimson Tide right tackle D.J.
Very few potential draft picks fit Dallas as well as Fluker. At 6'5 and 340 pounds, Fluker is a mauler who can dominate the point of attack in the run game and wall off the right side in pass protection.

Quarterback Tony Romo signed a record contract with $55 million guaranteed and he needs to be protected better. Last season, the Cowboys allowed 36 sacks. At right tackle, Doug Free was nothing more than average.

When you're paying $55 million in guaranteed money, you need better than average protection. If Fluker is available, it's a no-brainer for Dallas.

The ESPN analyst has Dallas targeting Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro with the 18th pick.

The latest mock draft from ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay has the Dallas Cowboys selecting Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro with the 18th pick in this month's draft. At 6' tall and 215 pounds, Vaccaro has the size to step into the Dallas defensive backfield in his first practice, and the Cowboys are in desperate need of help in the secondary.

Vaccaro is known as a vicious run defender, and is capable when called upon in coverage. He was a three-year starter for the Longhorns, recording a staggering 245 tackles in that time, including a career-best 107 stops as a senior. He also picked off two passes and forced a pair of fumbles for the team. Vaccaro was born and raised in Brownwood, Texas, just 185 miles from Dallas.

McShay also points out Dallas' deficiencies on the defensive line, suggesting they might look at defensive tackle Sylvester Williams or defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Bjoern Werner, if they slip into the middle of the first round.

Dallas has been a victim of a bad offensive line for years, something that needs to change if it ever wants another Lombardi Trophy.

The Dallas Cowboys signed quarterback Tony Romo to the largest guaranteed money contract in NFL history this offseason. Thus, it might be wise to protect that investment.

Warmack is the best available guard in many NFL circles, rivaled only by Jonathan Cooper of North Carolina. However, Fairburn has Warmack coming off first, and going to a place that desperately needs him. Warmack is an animal in run blocking, one of the best guards to come out in years to that point.

Elam is also a fine pick for an improving but still vulnerable secondary. Elam is the younger brother of ex-Cowboy Abe Elam, and he flat out makes plays. When watching Florida games the past few years, this youngster jumps out with such an excellent nose for the football.

Long is someone who provides versatility and has a high upside. Playing in Oregon's system, Long will come in supremely conditioned. He'll also know how to think quick and make adjustments on the fly, something that's invaluable for a rookie.

The No. 1 overall seed has blown through the Midwest Region with ease, knocking off North Carolina A&T, Colorado State, Oregon and Duke. Their smallest margin of victory was eight points over the Ducks.

Meanwhile, Wichita State has been the talk of the tourney. The Missouri Valley Conference team has faced some stiff competition and came out on top each time, taking out Pittsburgh, Gonzaga, La Salle and Ohio State to win the West Region. This is their first Final Four appearance since 1965, and they're the first MVC team to make it this far since Indiana State in 1979.

If a top offensive line prospect falls to Dallas in the first round, could they pass him up? Blogging the Boys sure didn't.

The Dallas Cowboys locked up Tony Romo with a new contract this offseason, but now they must continue their search for the right group of five offensive lineman to protect him. After selecting tackle Tyron Smith with the ninth overall pick two years ago, are they prepared to spend another first-round pick on a lineman? And this time, will it be a guard?

Dallas has several important needs that it will want to address in the draft this year if they are to improve upon their 8-8 record in 2012, many of which could be found on a defense that finished 19th in yardage allowed, 24th in points allowed, and 22nd against the run, but the offense isn't without serious needs as well. The Cowboys could consider a tackle like D.J. Fluker to play on the right side, but with Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper likely going in the first round, they could also slot one of those players to immediately start next season.

In the SBNation's blogger mock draft, comprised of writers for all 32 teams, the Cowboys site Blogging the Boys chose Jonathan Cooper, G, North Carolina:

The Cowboys offensive line, especially on the right side, has been a major problem. Mackenzy Bernadeau was signed as a free agent in 2012 and started at right guard, but was terribly inconsistent, and he’s battled injuries with another one this offseason. The Cowboys running game was a huge disappointment in 2012, even with stud DeMarco Murray in the lineup. Dallas has to get their run game restarted and protect Tony Romo. Adding the talented Cooper should help that cause.

And who better to tell you what the Cowboys need, than a guy that has to watch them all year long?

SB Nation's latest mock draft has the Cowboys selecting DT Sheldon Richardson out of Missouri.

The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2013 NFL Draft with needs on the offensive line, defensive line and secondary. With such a deep class along the trenches, they're in a good position to upgrade at least one of those positions with the 18th pick.

SB Nation's Dan Kadar released his latest mock draft on Monday, and he has the Cowboys selecting Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson with their first round pick:

A defensive lineman of Richardson's caliber would be difficult to pass up - particularly with Vaccaro off the board. The other option could be a guard like Jonathan Cooper or right tackle like D.J. Fluker, but Richardson grades out as the better player. He would also speed up the team's transition to Monte Kiffin's 4-3 defense.

Vaccaro would still be a fine pick if he falls to No. 18 here, and they wouldn't go wrong with either of the O-Linemen Kadar mentions. Still, Richardson is a good value here, ranking only behind Sharrif Floyd and Star Lotulelei as the best DTs in this year's class.

Nik Stauskas hit all six threes he attempted, and Michigan romped over an elite Florida team to make their first Final Four in 20 years.

Michigan blew the doors off of Florida in the South Regional Final at Cowboys Stadium Sunday, as the Wolverines advanced to the Final Four with a 79-59 win over a team some felt was the best in the country.

Game 1 in Arlington featured Michigan's preposterous comeback from being down 10 points with two and a half minutes left against Kansas, the first overtime game of the tourney. Game 2 featured Florida Gulf Coast, the tournament's biggest Cinderella story. The last game was supposed to be a thriller between the winners of those two games, an offensive juggernaut in Michigan and an airtight defense in Florida.

That wasn't the case. Michigan scored the first 13 points of the game, eight coming from Mitch McGary. And the Gators made the mistake of letting sharpshooter Nik Stauskas find space, and he made them pay, finishing with five threes on five attempts in the first half. (He'd hit another in the second half to finish with 22 points on just eight shots.) It only took a little over 15 minutes for Michigan to build up a 20-point lead, and the game wouldn't be competitive after that: Florida would never cut the lead back under 10 points.

Besides Stauskas, Michigan didn't bring anything particularly special -- Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, Jr. combined to score just 24 points on 29 shots -- but Burke had eight boards and seven assists. Florida's offense was just alright, nothing capable of keeping pace with a team that was blistering hot from all over the floor.

The Wolverines will face Syracuse in the Final Four on Saturday. It's their first trip to the national semifinals since 1993, the last stand of the Fab Five.
