Hockey Prospectus Impressed With Dallas Stars Offseason

The Dallas Stars have enjoyed a strange offseason so far. Fan favorite Steve Ott was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for impending free agent Derek Roy -- who just so happened to undergo shoulder surgery on Wednesday, and is sidelined until November.

The Stars signed a pair of aged superstars Ray Whitney and Jaromir Jagr, and also brought in Cody Eakin and Aaron Rome.

Though we have no idea how well the Stars will play next year, the folks over at Hockey Prospectus get paid to forecast these things. Using a statistic called Goals Versus Threshold (GVT), the writers at Hockey Prospectus have analyzed each team's offseason -- and the Stars grade our pretty favorably.

According to GVT, only the Minnesota Wild, Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets have had better offseasons than the Stars. Let's also remember that the Wild paid top dollar for both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, so they clearly should be No. 1.
