Stars Free Agency 2012: Dallas Sign Aaron Rome To 3-Year Deal

The Dallas Stars signed free agent defenseman Aaron Rome to a three-year deal worth $4.5 million on Sunday.

Rome spent the past three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, but last season he was limited to only 43 games due to thumb, knee and hand injuries. Rome is likely to be considered a third pairing player and the seventh defenseman for the upcoming season.

Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk likes what Rome can bring to the team:

"Aaron is a physical defensive defenseman who adds size and grit to our blue line," said Nieuwendyk. "He competes at a very high level and helps make our team harder to play against. We're very pleased to add Aaron to our team for the next three years."

Rome is possibly most famous for his hit on Nathan Horton in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.
