While NHL's free agency period doesn't begin until July 1, plenty of teams are wheeling and dealing, looking to trade for players and sign them to extensions prior to the free agency period.
Many teams might be calling up Joe Nieuwendyk this week, as it appears that Steve Ott is still available, at least according to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.
Steve Ott remains in play ... My own personal belief is that he'd be a great fit in Montreal. He's got size and skill, defend some teammates

Ott was drafted by the Stars in the first round of the 2000 NHL Draft, and has spent his entire career in Dallas. The 6'0" center appeared in 74 games for the Stars during the 2011-12 season, scoring 11 goals while assisting on 28 others.
LeBrun says in his next tweet that, if the Stars don't get the package they're looking for, they'll hang onto Ott... which seems rather obvious.
