That's a Wrap: Stars 2 - Jets 5

All good things must come to an end and oh boy what an end this was. The Stars suffered their only their second loss (first in regulation since) Feb. 19, a span of 12 games. Dallas was just thoroughly outplayed in this game up and down the ice from start to finish.

Winnipeg came out in this game on fire, peppering Richard Bachman with shots and constantly pressuring the Stars defense. The team that had four days rest just beat up on the team that had road games on back-to-back nights. The Jets scored one goal in the first period and four in the second to just take the air out of the Stars. After the third goal that the Jets scored, you could see the Stars players start to slump their shoulders.

The only player that scored for the Stars was Loui Eriksson, who had a goal in the second and third periods. Both goals came from a close range.

Richard Bachman suffered the loss but most of the goals were not his fault. He was letdown by turnovers and bad defensive coverage from his defensemen. The goal that was all on him was the fifth goal from the Jets, one that hit him in the face and bounced between his legs.

Philip Larsen returned in the last minutes of the second period but didn't come out for the third. He seemed to be okay though.

The Stars just need to put this game into the rear view mirror and regroup for a huge game Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

2nd Intermission Update: Stars 1 - Jets 5

The beginning of the second period went as badly as the beginning of the first for the Stars. An Alex Burmistrov shot from the right wing hit Richard Bachman in the helmet and flew into the slot. Evander Kane jumped on the rebound and fired it into the net for a 2-0 Jets lead.

Trevor Daley was in the area but had his back turned to Bachman and never saw the puck drop behind him. He didn't have a chance to stop Kane once he reached the puck.

The Jets would score again eight minutes into the period as Eric Fehr scored his second goal of the season. Adam Pardy had a shot blocked in the offensive zone and turned it over. He was beaten to the puck by Fehr to the puck and couldn't catch up to him. Fehr beat Alex Goligoski down the ice and beat Bachman high and on the shortside.

Andrew Ladd would score the Jets' fourth goal just a minute later. Blake Wheeler made an amazing move to get near the net and his pass eventually found its way to Andrew Ladd. Bachman blocked the initial shot but was face-down on the ice as the rebound went back to Ladd. Ladd calmly put it over him and into the net.

Dustin Byfuglien would get the Jets' fifth goal on a power play with four minutes left in the period. Byfuglien's shot from the point hit Bachman in the head, bounced between his legs and into the net.

Dallas got a small (very small) measure of redemption when Loui Eriksson scored a goal just 15 seconds later. All it does though is keep the Jets from getting a shutout.

Philip Larsen also returned to the ice near the end of the period. It looks like his knee is ok.

1st Intermission Report: Stars 0 - Jets 1, Larsen injured

It's been a tough start for the Dallas Stars in this game. Riding their home crowd, the Winnipeg Jets have dominated the run of play for the entire period and got their goal early in this one from Nik Antropov.

Antropov scored 2:21 into the period as a result of hard work on the boards from the Jets and a great shot. Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott were outworked on the boards and Antti Miettinen and the former Star got the puck to Antropov in the left face-off circle. Antropov fired a wicked wrister that went right over Richard Bachman's right shoulder into the net.

Bachman's short stature hurt him on that shot as he just couldn't reach the puck with his shoulder shrug.

Dallas didn't really have any spell of good possession and pressure on Winnipeg in the first period. They had to spend all their time defending right in front of the net. The Jets had numerous little tip-in chances right in front of Bachman that he was able to stop. Passes across Bachman's crease are a popular thing so far. Aside from that one goal, Bachman has been excellent.

The Stars also lost Philip Larsen to an injury midway through the period when he crashed awkwardly into the boards. He was in a puck battle and got his left foot stuck into the boards when he crashed into it. It looked like he went off the ice with some knee trouble. A team without Sheldon Souray was down to five defensemen for the rest of the period and perhaps the reset of the game.
