Negotiations between NHL players and owners will continue Wednesday and Thursday in New York, but those talks are not expected to include revenue issue division issues.

USA Today quoted an email from NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly, writing, "Major economic issues aren't on the agenda."

An unannounced meeting between NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr, special counsel Steve Fehr and Daly was held Oct. 5, reportedly discussing those economic concerns.

The Stars have lost 14 total games – six regular season games and the entire eight-game preseason – as of Oct. 9, with their next scheduled game set for Oct. 25 against Vancouver.

The NHL made a league-record $3.3 billion in 2011-12, and the owners are asking players to take a smaller share of total revenue. Players are willing to take a smaller percentage than they have in the past, but they want it to come out of future revenue expected to be earned.

Preseason games have already been cancelled through Oct. 24, and could eventually lose more, as the league faces its second work stoppage in the last seven years. The entire NHL season was cancelled due to labor strife in 2004-05.
