Dallas Stars Assign Maxime Fortunus, Francis Wathier To Minors

The Dallas Stars have made two more roster cuts – LW Francis Wathier and D Maxime Fortunus – to reduce their roster to 28. The club plays their last preseason game Thursday night and will then make their final cuts.

Aaron Gagnon Clears Waivers

Dallas Stars forward Aaron Gagnon has cleared waivers, allowing the training camp star to stay with the organization. The move was somewhat of a gamble, as the Stars determined that Gagnon would not make the final roster but didn’t want to lose him.

In a similar situation in 2008, the Stars waived B.J. Crombeen early in the season, hoping that he would clear and return later in the season. The Blues claimed him, and he scored 11 goals in a physical role. This time, Dallas made the move in the middle of camp, and the result was more positive.

The Stars also sent former lottery pick Scott Glennie back to his WHL junior league club in Brandon and sent former cup winner Brad Lukowich to Austin.

Stars Release Jonathan Cheechoo

Jonathan Cheechoo was unable to win a spot on a top line in camp, so the Dallas Stars have released him. Stars coach Marc Crawford commented on the move.

"No disrespect, but our guys in the top positions said to us that no one is taking our spot. You really have to outplay somebody. It's unfortunate, but that's where it is.

"Jonathan is a good pro and is a real honest person. He gave us great effort and we could have very easily kept him, but we felt it would be better to let him try to find something else."

Defending Big D has more, including the other 17 cuts that lowered the roster to 33.
