Texas Rangers All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton left the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when he clutched his back and experienced lower back spasms. The injury occurred when Hamilton got turned around when trying to catch a fly ball in the top of the fifth inning. After that play Hamilton could be seen grabbing his lower back a few times after making the long throw.
The Rangers took precautionary measures and pulled Hamilton for the remainder of the game. Replacing Hamilton in the lineup was Leonys Martin who pinch-hit with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and he also stayed in the game at centerfield.
Prior to leaving the game with the injury Hamilton was 0-for-2 on the night against the Twins.
