Mavericks Offseason Rumors: Brandan Wright Coming Back Is A Mere 'Formality'

NBA free agency does not officially get underway until July 1, but Dallas Mavericks backup center Brandan Wright should plan on going nowhere this offseason. Wright has a team-option for the 2012-13 season and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson is calling it a "formality" that the team will exercise their option to keep Wright.

Wright has been injured during his first three years in the NBA career which started with the Golden State Warriors, and then was traded to the New Jersey Nets who let Wright walk this past off season.

The Mavericks took a chance on the former lotter pick this past season at a bargain deal of less than $1 million, and so far it has paid off. This past season, Wright averaged 16 minutes and 6.9 points per game.

His role for the 2012-13 season is still unknown since Brendan Haywood could have the amnesty clause placed on him, and Ian Mahinmi is an unrestricted free agent.
