Dallas Mavericks Free Agency Rumors: Nowitzki And Kidd Want To Play With Deron Williams

The Dallas Mavericks run at repeating as NBA champions is over but a few of the veteran players aren't quite ready to give up on the team making a furious comeback next season, pending a certain hometown hero and free agent named Deron Williams signs on.

Jason Kidd came out and said backing up Williams would be an easy job and one the 39-year-old veteran would definitely be willing to sign up for if the opportunity presented itself. This is what Kidd told Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

"Oh, I can definitely back him up," Kidd said. "That's an easy job. I can be a penalty killer, minutes killer. I'll just have to watch a little hockey and figure out how to kill time, but I could definitely accept that role."

Dirk Nowitzki also expressed his interest in playing alongside Williams, which would give the Mavericks two legitimate superstars on the roster.

"It's May, and he knows he's got a big decision to make," Nowitzki said. "It's obvious that we'd love to have him, but so would a lot of other teams, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens there this summer.

"I was fortunate enough to spend some time around him during All-Star games. He's a great dude and he's from here, so I think it would be a great fit, but hey, that's not my decision."
