According to a report from the heavily connected Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, there's only one way the Nets will be able to keep Deron Williams this off-season:
All-Star point guard Deron Williams has made one decision about his free agency: If the Brooklyn Nets win the No. 1 pick in the NBA's draft lottery on Wednesday night - and the chance to secure Kentucky center Anthony Davis - it won't be enough for Williams to sign a contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
"It's Dwight Howard or bust," said a league source who has spoken to Williams.
Williams has read the tea leaves: with the Miami Heat looking poised to win their second consecutive Eastern Conference championship, the era of the super-team has arrived.
But while he's reportedly unwilling to wait on the development of likely No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis, if the Nets did win the lottery, the Magic would probably accept a package for Howard built around the Kentucky star.
Dallas may not have a lottery pick this year, but Mavericks fans will have plenty to root for (and against) in the lottery on Wednesday night.
