The Dallas Mavericks saw their two game winning streak come to an end as they fell 109-93 to the Los Angeles Lakers. A poor second quarter put the Mavericks in a hole as they struggled defensively against the Lakers.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks hitting 10-24 shots. Jason Terry added 23 points while Vince Carter pitched in nine. Lamar Odom's struggles continued as he finished with just one point and one rebound in 21 minutes of action.

Shawn Marion Injury: Dallas Forward Ruled Out Against Lakers

Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion lobbied hard but has been ruled out of Wednesday's game against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Marion is a key part of Dallas' defensive game plan against the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe Bryant has been limited to 29 points in two games against the Mavericks on 11 of 37 shooting. Marion has missed the last two games with a sore knee but took part in this morning's shootaround which gave him hope that he could return to action against the Lakers.

Interestingly, Dallas has won both games that Marion has missed defeating both the San Antonio Spurs and the Denver Nuggets.

Lakers Vs. Mavericks: Shawn Marion A Game Time Decision

Shawn Marion has been listed as a game-time decision for Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Marion, who has missed the last two games due to a left knee injury, did participate in Wednesday's shootaround successfully, but remains a game-time decision.

"Feeling better," Marion said after the shootaround. "Don't know yet [about playing]. We've got to talk about it."

Having Marion on the court against the Lakers would be a huge boost for the Mavericks. As ESPN's Jeff Caplan points out, Marion defends Kobe Bryant very well, holding him to a mere 14.5 points per game average in two games.

The Mavericks have won both games since Marion went down, defeating both the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets. There's no doubt, though, that the Mavericks would benefit from having Marion back.

At the least, it sounds like Marion should be back pretty soon -- and hopefully soon is tonight for the Mavs and their fans.

Mavericks Vs. Lakers: Game Preview, TV Info And More

On the heels of a four-game winning streak, the suddenly streaking Dallas Mavericks host the LA Lakers Wednesday in a game that has huge playoff implications for both teams.

LA, at 28-18, is in the No. 3 position in the West, with Dallas 1.5 games behind them at 27-20. Both teams want to avoid the 4 and 5 positions and a second-round date with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Dallas will be without Brendan Haywood, which could be a huge loss against the Lakers, one of the biggest teams in the NBA with the 7'0 tandem of Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.

LA is bringing in a radically new team, as they made a series of intriguing moves at the NBA's trade deadline. Ramon Sessions, a 25-year old PG from the Cleveland Cavaliers, has replaced Derek Fisher in the starting line-up while Jordan Hill, an athletic 6'10 235 24-year old from the Houston Rockets, is in line to be the primary backup at the center position.

The Mavericks are hoping that Shawn Marion will be back for the game Wednesday, as he's been Dallas primary defender on Kobe Bryant over the last few seasons.

The 8:30 PM game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
