Nets Trade For Gerald Wallace, Go All In With Deron Williams

With Dwight Howard deciding to stay in Orlando until at least the summer of 2013, the New Jersey Nets quickly moved to Plan B in the hours before the NBA trade deadline.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Nets traded Shawne Williams, Mehmet Okur and a 2012 first round pick protected in the top 3 to Portland in exchange for SF Gerald Wallace.

↵

It's an extremely risky move for New Jersey, as the 2012 draft is one of the strongest in the last decade, but it should set them up to a late-season run at a playoff berth with a front-court of Brook Lopez and Wallace complementing All-NBA PG Deron Williams.

↵

New Jersey clearly thought they needed to upgrade their team to convince Williams to stay and not come to Dallas in the summer of 2012, but in the process, they added a 6'7 29-year old 10-year NBA veteran who depends on his athleticism and has had his stats take a significant drop this season.

↵

Mavericks fans will undoubtedly want to watch how the Nets season progresses over the next month.
