Dirk on flopping fines: 'Bunch of crap'

The Mavericks star doesn't think the league's new policy towards penalizing floppers is a good idea.

The NBA's experimentation with penalizing excessive flopping has been one of the big topics of debate throughout the league as training camp begins.

One person who isn't a huge fan of the rules changes is Dirk Nowitzki (courtesy of the Dallas Morning News):

"I never looked at myself as a big flopper,'' Nowitzki said Thursday. "If you play me physical then, obviously, I got to sell the call and get to the (free-throw) line. That's just part of the game. We'll have to see how they enforce that.

"I think it's a bunch of crap to be honest with you. Are they going to come back after a game and fine you for flopping? That's tough to do to me.''

Dirk isn't someone who picks up a lot of charges on the defensive end, but as even he admits, he will exaggerate contact on the offensive end if he feels he is being played too physical.

Drawing fouls is a big part of Dirk's game, as he has averaged 6.5 foul shots a game over his 14-year NBA career.

Whether or not that changes in 2013 remains to be seen, but will the NBA go out of its way to punish its biggest stars? I'm going to guess no.
