The Mavericks' forward/center is not injured, but will not play against the team's final preseason game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night.

Dallas Mavericks forward/center Elton Brand will not play in the team's preseason finale against the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night, according to a report from Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com.

Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle and athletic trainer Casey Smith made the decision to rest the 13-year veteran out of Duke in an effort to keep him fresh for the team's regular season opener on Tuesday night. Brand is not dealing with any injuries at this time.

"He's played every game and gone through every practice," Carlisle told MacMahon. "I just want to make sure he's rested."

This is not the first time that Carlisle has rested his veteran players this preseason. Swingman Vince Carter and small forward Shawn Marion sat out the Mavericks 88-76 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Dallas will open the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 30 against the Los Angeles Lakers at 9:30 p.m. CT at Staples Center. The game will be televised on TNT.
