Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks Clean Up At ESPYs

The 2010-11 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks had quite the showing at the 2011 ESPYs in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, cleaning up many of the NBA awards. Dirk Nowitzki won the ESPY for Best Male Athlete and Best NBA Player, while the Mavericks team won the Best Team ESPY  and head coach Rick Carlisle won Best Coach/Manager.

"I'm so humbled and honored by this," Nowitzki said. "It's been an unreal year for all of us on the Mavericks."

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban added: "We had a great time and are glad we won, but the biggest deal was when my daughter met Selena Gomez.

Cuban's quote speaks to what I was talking about on Wednesday whenI asked if there was anything lamer than the ESPYs. I'm not quite sure what Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have to do with sports, other than ESPN doing the best they can to turn sports into a tweenager chick flick.

Regardless, it's great to see the Mavericks get even more recognition for their first-ever NBA title. I am a bit surprised, though, that ESPN didn't give the Miami Heat the Best Team award, since it seemed like the coverage there - even after Dallas' win - was all about Miami and their loss.
