2011 NBA Finals: Gary Payton's Shorts Don't Do Trick For Jason Terry

Stay connected for news and updates

Jason Terry has a tradition of wearing opposition shorts to bed prior to each game. They serve both motivational and superstitious purposes. He wore a special pair Monday night prior to the Mavs' NBA Finals opener in Miami: Gary Payton's shorts from the 2006 Finals. Payton gave Terry those shorts just after the Heat topped the Mavericks to win the title.

Terry might want to wear a different pair of Heat shorts Wednesday night, as his shooting slump continued. Terry was just 3-10 from the field, scoring 12 points in 32:30 minutes and didn't exactly fill up the stat sheet otherwise. His shooting slump extends back to game two of the Western Conference Finals against the Thunder. After an 8-16 performance in Game 1, he followed with 3-9, 3-12, 7-19 and 3-9. In all he's shot just 32% for his last five games. The Mavericks will need a hotter Terry to overcome a swarming Heat defense.
