The Dallas Mavericks have signed former first-round draft pick Yi Jianlian to a one-year contract to fill out their roster. The Mavericks were in need of another post player and it came down to Yi and former Utah Jazz center Kyrylo Fesenko for the final 15th roster spot.
Yi is expected to join the Mavericks D-League affiliate the Texas Legends before he joins the Mavericks. The move to bring Yi to the Legends will reunite him with former Chinese national coach Del Harris who is currently the head coach of the Mavericks D-League affiliate.
Yi was the No. 6 overall pick back in 2007 by the Milwaukee Bucks and spent last season with the Washington Wizards and has career averages of 8.5 points and 5.3 rebounds. Yi considered signing with the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs before settling on Dallas.
