Derrick Rose Scores 26 As Bulls Beat Mavericks

(Sports Network) – Derrick Rose scored a game-high 26 points to go along with nine assists as the Chicago Bulls edged the Dallas Mavericks, 82-77, at United Center.

Kurt Thomas added nine points and 11 rebounds, while Luol Deng grabbed 12 rebounds with seven points for the Bulls, who played their third straight contest without forward Carlos Boozer.

Boozer has missed the team’s last three games as he recovers from a sprained left ankle he suffered in Chicago’s 99-96 victory over Miami on Saturday.

Dirk Nowitzki paced the Mavericks with 19 points, while Tyson Chandler, DeShawn Stevenson and Jason Terry each contributed 12 points. The Mavericks have lost seven of eight dating back to January 6.

The Mavericks took a 60-56 lead into the fourth quarter, however, after a Rose reverse layup with just inside nine minutes remaining, the game was tied a 66-66.

C.J. Watson then connected on a three-pointer to give Chicago a 69-66 advantage, and the teams traded baskets into the final minutes.

Thomas hit on a mid-range jumper with 3 1/2 remaining to put Chicago up 78-73, but Nowitzki responded with a 4-0 run of his own, capped by an 18-foot fadeaway jumper at 2:14 to trim Dallas’ deficit to 78-77.

After Nowitzki failed to extend the run with a missed jumper, Rose sank a short basket with 55 seconds left to extend the Bulls lead to 80-77.

Terry missed a chance to even the game on a three, and after Chicago called a timeout, Kyle Korver made two foul shots to seal the game with 5.5 seconds remaining.

Dallas took a 20-19 lead after the first quarter, and the Chicago bench led the way in the second, scoring 18 of the Bulls’ 25 points as they took a 44-35 lead into the break.

The Mavericks opened the third quarter with a 15-4 run, capped by a Stevenson three-pointer, to take a 50-48 lead just inside seven minutes.

After Taj Gibson evened the game with a jumper at the far end, the teams traded baskets down the stretch. Brendan Haywood ended the quarter with a layup, and Dallas had a 60-56 advantage entering the fourth.

Mavericks Take On Derrick Rose, Bulls

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Bulls hope to bounce back from their first home loss in a month when they play host to the Dallas Mavericks at the United Center.

D.J. Augustin led a balanced Charlotte attack with 15 points and five assists on Tuesday, as the Bobcats topped the Carlos Boozer-less Bulls, 83-82, at the United Center.

Derrick Rose led Chicago with a game-high 33 points while Ronnie Brewer added 12 points in a reserve role and Luol Deng contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for the Bulls, who lost for the first time on their home floor since Dec. 18, a 100-99 setback against the LA Clippers.

"The way we played tonight is really not the way we're supposed to play," said Rose. "We didn't have enough energy towards the end of the game."

Boozer missed his second straight game against Charlotte with a sprained left ankle and is likely to sit again tonight. Meanwhile, center Joakim Noah remains sidelined with a thumb injury.

The Mavericks snapped a season-long six-game skid with a huge win over the two-time defending champion Lakers on Wednesday. Shawn Marion and Jason Terry both supplied 22 points off the bench in that one as Dallas earned a 109-100 over the champs in Big D.

Jason Kidd scored 13 of his season-high 21 points during a game-altering third quarter and dished out 10 assists for Dallas, which hadn't won since January 4 against Portland. In his third game back since returning form a sprained right knee, Dirk Nowitzki totaled 14 points and eight rebounds for Dallas.

"Guys got after it on both ends of the floor and played hard and it just happened to be against the world champions," Terry said.

The Mavericks were once 24-5 and just 1 1/2 games behind the Southwest Division-leading Spurs when Nowitzki went down with his injury against Oklahoma City on Dec. 27. Since then Dallas has gone just 3-9 and now trails San Antonio by 8 1/2 games.

Dallas, which is 12-6 on the road this season, has dropped four straight overall away from home but has won nine of its last 11 trips to the Windy City.

The Bulls, however, snapped a three-game skid to the Mavs with a 88-83 triumph in north Texas back on Nov. 19.
