Dallas Cowboys Roster Cuts: QB McGee Released To Make Room For TE Cochart

The Dallas Cowboys released third-string quarterback Stephen McGee on Saturday, according to Darin Gantt at Pro Football Talk. In a corresponding move, the Cowboys claimed tight end Colin Cochart off of waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dallas originally kept McGee on the roster after trimming it to 53 players on Friday, but it is apparent that the Cowboys are concerned enough about the health of All-Pro TE Jason Witten that they felt they needed to add depth to the position.

McGee, 26, appeared in three regular season games for Dallas over the past two years, completing 46 of 82 passes for 420 yards and three touchdowns as the backup to Tony Romo. However, the Cowboys brought in Kyle Orton over the offseason, which meant McGee fell to third.

Cochart, 25, signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State prior to the 2011 season. In ten games last year, Cochart caught five balls for 44 yards and a score.
