Safety Brodney Pool was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Monday morning, just months after signing with the team as a free agent this offseason and before he ever played a down for the team. Pool had an opportunity to win the starting free safety job with the Cowboys, but his start to training camp didn't go so well.
He reportedly failed conditioning test, which kept him off the field and allowed Barry Church a chance to show he was capable of filling the position. Church is also roughly half a million dollars cheaper than Pool, so it makes sense from a financial perspective for the Cowboys.
Pool was not going to be a backup safety making $1.1 million a year and not much history of playing special teams.
