Cowboys Cuts: Clifton Geathers Among First Wave Of Final Cuts

Stay connected for news and updates

The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff must trim their roster to 53 men by 9 p.m. Friday night, and the cuts started coming Thursday afternoon. Mike Fisher of Fox Sports Southwest had the news on Twitter:

Fisher reported a few minutes later that quarterback Rudy Carpenter had also been cut. Carpenter is likely to return as a member of the practice squad.

Danny Coale did have one catch in Wednesday night's game against the Miami Dolphins, but otherwise had received little playing time. Geathers was a disappointment on the defensive line. Daniel Loper, who was injured, Pat McQuistan and Harland Gunn were all offensive lineman: the Cowboys will almost certainly be looking to find some o-line depth on the waiver wire.
