NFL Injury Report: Cowboys Escape Week 3 Unscathed

Week 3 brought good news for the Dallas Cowboys, as they not only managed to sneak past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 16-10 win -- a win that moved the Boys up to 2-1 on the season -- but they also escaped relatively unscathed on the injury front.

The only two injuries for the Cowboys happened to left guard Nate Livings and receiver Miles Austin, who were both removed from the field for a short time but returned quickly.

Fifteen players are currently on the official injury report on the Cowboys' official website as of the Tampa Bay game. There are five names listed as 'out' who missed the Bucs game: Alex Albright, Kenyon Coleman, Phil Costa, Matt Johnson and Jay Ratliff.

Dolphins Vs. Cowboys: C Phil Costa Sees First Action

The Dallas Cowboys won their final preseason game, a 30-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday night. They now set their sights on the games that count as they are less than a week away from the regular-season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 5.

Only one starter played for the Cowboys, and Blogging The Boys gave him an evaluation:

The only starter who suited up for Dallas was center Phil Costa, who was getting his first preseason action. He logged 11 snaps on the Cowboys first two drives and then sat out. Costa played reasonably well. There were no bumbled snaps and he was reasonably able to play his role. There weren't any dominating plays, but he also didn't make any egregious ones. On downs where he wasn't superior, the he made enough of a play that his man didn't end it. He did get thrown to the ground on a couple plays, but again, none that affected the play. Not a resounding game, but not a facepalm experience either.

Others who were given playing time were trying to earn a roster spot as the Dallas coaching staff makes their roster decisions for Week 1. The team must be cut down to 53 players by Friday at 8 p.m. CT.

Mike Jenkins Injury: Cowboys CB Passed Physical, Could Practice Saturday

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins could be making his return to the field sooner than expected.

On Wednesday, he passed his physical and might be back at practice as early as Saturday, according to Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com:

Jenkins has not practiced since January, after having rotator cuff surgery. Last week, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that he did not expect Jones to be ready for the season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 5. There is no word yet as to how this affects his status for that game.

Cowboys Vs. Dolphins: Dallas Wins 30-13

In the final game of the preseason, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins 30-13 at Cowboys Stadium on Wednesday night.

After falling behind 6-0 in the first quarter, the Cowboys took control of the game for good early in the second quarter. With 11:36 left in the second quarter, Cowboys linebacker Orie Lemon stepped in front of a Matt Moore pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown and a 10-6 lead.

The second half belonged to Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar. The accomplished rookie out of North Texas rushed for 105 yards on 15 carries in two quarters. Dunbar made his mark on two consecutive plays early in the third -- after returning a punt 27 yards, he took a hand-off on the next play for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Miami closes out the preseason with an 0-4 record, and opens the regular season on Sun., Sept. 9 at the Houston Texans. Dallas finishes the preseason 2-2 and heads to New Jersey to open against the New York Giants on Wed., Sept. 5.

Cowboys Vs. Dolphins: Dallas Leads 20-6 At Halftime

The Dallas Cowboys have taken a 20-6 halftime lead into the locker room at home against the Miami Dolphins.

The Cowboys took control with 11:36 left in the second quarter when linebacker Orie Lemon stepped in front of a Matt Moore pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown. The touchdown put the Cowboys up 10-6 and punctuated a tough night for Moore, who left the game after throwing just 3-10 for 34 yards.

Dallas upped the lead to 17-6 with 4:46 left in the half on a deliberate 10-play, 83-yard drive capped by a one-yard Phillip Tanner touchdown run. Tanner rushed nine times for 48 yards in the half. Quarterback Stephen McGee was 9-18 for 124 yards, and engineered another late drive that led to a field goal as time expired.

The Dolphins went up 6-0 in the first quarter on two Dan Carpenter field goals before surrendering the lead.

In the final preseason game for both teams, the Cowboys are looking to pull even at 2-2, while Miami is on the verge of going winless.

Cowboys Injury Update: Dallas Without Several Big Names For Preseason Finale Vs. Dolphins

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for their final preseason tune-up on Wednesday night, as they take on the Miami Dolphins. The Cowboys will be without several injured big-name players, although many are expected to play the following week in the regular season opener against the New York Giants.

Tight end Jason Witten heads the list, as the All-Pro continues to recover from a spleen injury that he sustained in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders. Witten has healed since, and has a chance to get back on the field for Week 1. Miles Austin is another star pass-catcher that won't play against the Dolphins, as he is nursing a hamstring strain, but says there is "no doubt" about whether or not he'll play in the season opener. DeMarcus Ware, who is also dealing with hamstring issues, has vowed to be ready when the real games start as well.

Mike Jenkins and Jay Ratliff are more in doubt than the guys listed above, in terms of whether or not they'll be on the field when Dallas faced their division rivals. Ratliff hasn't been ruled out, though he's still on crutches. And, while Jenkins hasn't officially been ruled out either, it does appear that he's unlikely to play as he continues to rehab his surgically-repaired right shoulder.
