NFL Rumors: Jason Witten Questionable For Season Opener

Stay connected for news and updates

Over the last decade, Jason Witten has been one of the most reliable players in the NFL, a steady fixture at the TE position for the Dallas Cowboys amidst the sea of off-field turbulence and controversy that has defined the franchise under Jerry Jones.

However, he's missed most of training camp for the first time in his career due to a lacerated spleen he suffered in their first pre-season game against the Oakland Raiders.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the good news for Cowboys fans is that his injury will not require surgery:

The bad news is that his streak of consecutive games started, which goes back to the 2006 season, may be coming to an end. That's never a good sign for a player in a contact sport now on the wrong side of the age 30 barrier.
