2012 NFL Draft Results: Cowboys Show Confidence In Offense

The Dallas Cowboys used five of their seven picks in the 2012 NFL Draft on defensive players because they knew the offense was already in tact. Even though head coach Jason Garrett is an offensive brainchild and former quarterback himself, this draft and offseason was spent focusing on areas with the most urgent needs.

It wasn't the Cowboys offense that gave up five fourth-quarter leads, which included a particularly embarrassing one to the Detroit Lions in early October last season.

Dallas emphasized defense because of the confidence in the offense and the confidence they'd like to have in the defense. This from Garrett to ESPNDallas.com:

"Well, we can improve in every area of our football team. We have our eyes open to that. And you have to look at every way to do that. We felt like we did a lot of that in free agency and we were certainly ready to do that in that draft. We didn't feel like our backs were to the wall where we had to take this position or that position."
