2012 NFL Draft Value Picks: Mike Lombardi Ranks Caleb McSurdy As 11th Best Selection

NFL Network analyst Mike Lombardi says the Dallas Cowboys selection of Caleb McSurdy with the 222nd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft is the 12th best value pick of all selections outside of the first round. As it's been noted throughout the draft process, the Cowboys focused heavily on defense this year not only in the draft, but in free agency as well. That should help them on a defense that ranked toward the bottom of the league in 2011.

Here is what Lombardi had to say about the McSurdy selection:

"McSurdy might never start for Dallas, but he is capable of being a core special-teams member and playing a role in the Cowboys' sub defense. He is smart, tough and willing, which makes him a real value in the seventh round."

McSurdy went under the radar for much of his career because he played a Montana, a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) school with a very solid reputation among those ranks.
