NFL Draft Results 2012: Cowboys Select Oklahoma TE James Hanna In Sixth

The Dallas Cowboys continued to grab skill-position players in the third day of the 2012 NFL Draft, as they selected Oklahoma TE James Hanna with the No. 186 selection in the sixth round.

Hanna, a Dallas native who grew up in Flower Mound, was a second-team All Big 12 TE for Oklahoma as a senior last season.

At 6'4 250 with a 4.5 40, he has excellent athletic ability for the TE position, although he isn't considered a high-end pass-catching prospect. He had 37 receptions for 381 yards and 2 TD's in 2011.

While he doesn't have great size, he should be a solid blocker in the NFL, and his athleticism could make him a valuable special teams player as well.

An excerpt from the National Football Post's scouting report on Hanna:

Possesses average size for the postion, but can coil up into his stance, keep his pad level down and fire off the football. Exhibits solid first step quickness down the seam and good speed. Tends to gear down when asked to get out of his breaks, but can be a sharper route runner in time. Possesses good range when asked to go get the football, but at times will struggle to pluck off his frame. Looks natural running down the seam and making plays on the throw.

Tape from Hanna's game against Oklahoma State in 2010:
