NFL Draft Rumors: Is Mark Barron The Best Safety Prospect Since Eric Berry?

The Mark Barron bandwagon is all but filled up, as NFL.com's Charlie Casserly, formerly the GM of the Houston Texans, rates the Alabama safety as the second-best prospect at his position since 2004:

For Casserly, Earl Thomas (No. 14 in 2010) and Michael Huff (No. 7 in 2006) can't tackle as well, Sean Taylor (No. 5 in 2004) and LaRon Landry (No. 6 in 2007) can't cover as well, while Donte Whitner (No. 8 in 2006) just isn't as good in any facet of the game.

Eric Berry, the Tennessee safety whom the Kansas City Chiefs took with the No. 5 pick in 2010, is the only player Casserly would have taken above Barron coming out of college.

Before tearing his knee in the first week of the 2011 season, Berry shined as a rookie in 2010, racking up 92 tackles, 2 sacks and 4 interceptions while helping the Chiefs return to the playoffs.

Cowboys fans, who haven't seen a dominant safety since the days of Darren Woodson, can only dream that Barron matches that type of production as a rookie.
