The Dallas Cowboys are readying themselves for NFL free agency, which begins on Tuesday. The team received word on Monday that they will be penalized for salary cap violations, which reduces their available and allowable offseason spending money by about $5 million. That may end up affecting the approach they were planning to take in pursuing players on the open market, but only time will tell.
Before free agency has even begun, the team made one significant move on Tuesday. According to Todd Archer and Calvin Watkins at ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys have released cornerback Terence Newman.
The two-time Pro Bowl selection had been with the Cowboys since being selected in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft as the No. 5 overall pick. He has 532 tackles and 32 interceptions in his NFL career.
