Cowboys vs. Giants: Dallas has chance to sweep rivals despite struggles

Tom Pennington

The Cowboys beat the Giants 24-17 in Week 1, but lost three of their next four, while the Giants won five of their next six.

With three straight wins, the Giants have recovered from a season opening loss to the Cowboys to take a two-win lead on the rest of the NFC East after seven weeks. The rest of the division, including Dallas, have three wins each, although the Eagles and Cowboys have already had their bye.

The 2012 season hasn't gone as well for the Cowboys after the Week 1 win, as they lost three of the next four games before bouncing back with a Week 7 win over the Panthers. However, even their 19-14 win over Carolina has been the subject of pessimism as the Cowboys needed two field goals from Dan Bailey in the fourth quarter to recover from a 14-13 deficit against a team that is now 1-5.

Despite the struggles for the Cowboys and the success for the Giants, Dallas can recover and set itself up for a chance at the NFC East title with a win on Sunday. After beating New York in Week 1, 24-17, the Cowboys will host the division rivals this time and have the opportunity for a season sweep.

A 2-0 record over the Giants would be good for not only bragging rights, but also give the Cowboys a tie-breaker for the top spot in the NFC East if the two teams came to that. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:25 p.m. CT and will be televised on FOX.
