Dallas Cowboys Sign Marcus Spears

While the Dallas Cowboys wait for an answer from Nnamdi Asomugah, they've signed Marcus Spears to a five year contract worth 19.2 million dollars, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

Spears was placed on injured reserve last season with a calf injury following Week 9 last season. Known more for run stopping than pass rushing, Spears did not record a sack for the Cowboys last year and recorded 19 tackles.

The move comes a day after the Washington Redskins signed Stephen Bowen

Re-signing Spears means that there will be less money for Dallas to offer Asomugah, which keeps the Jets as the heavy favorites to sign the cornerback. Jerry Jones will certainly do everything he can to appease Asomugah and will offer everything including the kitchen sink.

Spears was drafted by the Cowboys out of Louisiana State University in the first round of the 2005 draft. This deal ensures that Spears' Cowboys career will span a decade - assuming, of course, he doesn't get cut halfway through the deal.
