Dallas Cowboys To Release Roy Williams

Another hour, another Dallas Cowboys cut. This time, it's wide receiver Roy Williams. According to ESPN Dallas, which cites multiple sources, Williams' time as a Cowboy is over.

Dallas had traded for Williams in the middle of the 2008 season, acquiring him from the Detroit Lions. The Cowboys surrendered quite a bit to acquire him: a first, third and sixth round draft pick in the 2009 draft as well as a seventh rounder in the 2010 draft.

The former Texas Longhorn appeared in 40 games with the Cowboys, catching 94 passes for 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns spanning three seasons.

Williams was set to earn 5.1 million dollars this year, and his play simply didn't warrant the paycheck.

With Williams out of the picture, Dez Bryant is now certainly the No. 2 wide receive on the Cowboys. If nothing else, Williams' release reaffirms Dallas' faith in Bryant as a football player, off-field antics (which have been blown out of proportion) aside.

Williams is the fourth Cowboys player to receive the axe today, joining offensive linemen Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis as well as running back Marion Barber
