Bryan McCann Releases Statement On Public Intoxication Arrest

Cowboys corner Bryan McCann has in fact released a statement regarding his arrest for public intoxication early Saturday morning. Details are still fuzzy, but McCann was arrested and held for several hours before his release Saturday. He maintains his innocence.

“I was not intoxicated and did not pose a danger to myself or others,” McCann said in a statement released through his agent John Biggins. "I am very grateful that, due to the Constitution and Americans’ strong and enduring belief in due process, I am presumed innocent of this public intoxication charge because I am innocent.”

“My good name and reputation mean everything to me,” McCann said in his statement. “I have never been arrested before and take pride in conducting myself at all times in a responsible and respectful manner off the football field.”

McCann will still be subject to potential conduct discipline from the NFL office, despite the league’s imminent lockout.

Cowboys CB Bryan McCann Arrested For Public Intoxication

WFAA reported Saturday night that Cowboys backup corner Bryan McCann was arrested early Saturday morning for public intoxication.

McCann was taken to Dallas city detox center around 3 a.m. and released almost eight hours later.

Details of what led to his arrest have not been released, but officers must consider someone a danger to themselves or others to arrest them for public intoxication.

According to NBC's ProFootballTalk blog, the NFL will continue to deal with player conduct during the lockout.

"While players won't be able to get the benefit of our evaluation and counseling program during the work stoppage, the personal conduct of players and employees is an integrity-of-the-game issue," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Marvez. "Any misconduct that is detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the NFL will certainly be addressed when play resumes."

McCann said via his twitter feed this morning that he will send out a press release today regarding the "current allegations."

He played a key role in the midseason turnaround under Jason Garrett because of two big plays. His interception of a Peyton Manning pass intended for Hakeem Nicks and subsequent 101-yard return keyed a big win in New York. A week later, he returned a punt 97 yards against the Lions and was named the NFL's rookie of the week.
