With the news that DeMarco Murray has been placed on the injured reserve list, the Dallas Cowboys have signed former New England Patriots running back Sammy Morris to a contract on Tuesday. via Adam Schefter's twitter.
Cowboys placed running back DeMarco Murray on IR and signed former Patriots RB Sammy Morris.
Morris' best season was with New England in 2008 when he ran for 727 yards on 156 carries with seven touchdowns. The fact that he's available this late in the season should temper expectations but the Cowboys had a need and Morris apparently fit what they were looking for. The 11-year veteran has a career average of 4.2 yards per carry with 26 touchdowns with stops in Buffalo, Miami and New England.
Morris will join starter Felix Jones in the Cowboys backfield for the remainder of the season.
